Evaporative Cooling Pads for greenhouse and animal environments.

A PROVEN PERFORMER

Pads are cellulose cooling cells 4" (10 cm) and 6" (15 cm) deep, 12"(30 cm) and 24" (60 cm) wide and available in 12" (30 cm) increments from 24"(60 cm) to 72" tall with two pieces of 4"(10 cm) deep combined to make 84"(214 cm) and 96"(244 cm) tall pads. Al they are available 78" (198 cm) tall. The cooling cells are made from a specially formulated cellulose paper impregnated with insoluble anti-rot salts. It is designed with an exclusive cross-fluted configuration which induces highly turbulent mixing inside the pad between the water and the air, and contributes to the evaporative efficiency. The cross-fluted design makes pads a strong self-supporting pad with high evaporative efficiency and low pressure drop (resistance to air flow).

A face velocity of 250 feet(75 m) per minute for 4"(10 cm) and 400 feet(120 m) per minute for 6"(15 cm) is recommended for the most economical cost and operation.

Sizing Pad

Determine Total Summer Cooling Required in CFM, then divide by velocity to obtain pad area in square feet. The pad area divided by the length will determine the height in feet.

4" and 6" Kool-Cel Pad

The 4" Kool-Cel pad is constructed with air flow at equal 45- angles which allows air flow to enter from either side of the pad.

4"and 6" Celdek Pad

Munter has different configurations for different industries. The 6" Celdek pad contains flutes organized in two angles, one with steep pitch and the other less pitched. The air must enter the pad from the side with the steep pitch.

Glacier-Cor Cooling Pads

Evaporative cooling with Glacier-Cor - utilizes and perfects the time-proven, energy-efficient method of cooling air by evaporating water. Glacier-Cor Cooling Pads are composed of layers of mechanically corrugated, saturating-quality, kraft paper (with high water retention properties) that has been impregnated with thermo-setting resins. The corrugation forms channels at precisely engineered angles. Air passes through the channels, evaporating the water that is constantly present. The result is highly effective and efficient cooling.

HIGH EFFICIENCY

Higher cooling efficiencies with lower volumes of air allows use of smaller fans.

HIGH AIR VELOCITY

LONGER LIFE

KoolCel, Munters Cel-Dek, Glacier Cor offer longest life of any pads. Munters has warehouses around the world.

CONSISTENT PERFORMANCE

Throughout its life, our pad efficiency does not change because its cross-corrugated structure resists clogging, sagging, gapping and fouling. With simple procedures, it's literally self-cleaning!

CUSTOMIZED COOLING

We offer a variety of pad depths and angles, allowing you to choose the perfect cooling system for you specific application.

COMPATIBILITY

All of our pads are compatible with our air-conditioning components.

APPLICATION VERSATILITY

  • Comfort cooling for poultry or livestock.
  • Space cooling of agricultural buildings.

The heart of the CELdek cooling system is the pad where the water evaporates. The CELdek cooling pad is manufactured of fluted cellulose sheets that are glued together. The CELdek material is chemically impregnated with special compounds to prevent rot and ensure a long service life.

A special water distribution pad spreads water over the surface of the material, ensuring a uniform supply of water to the pad wall to keep the entire air contact surface thoroughly wetted. Fans installed on the opposite wall create a zone of negative pressure inside thbuildingng, causing air to be sucked in through the CELdek pad.

Evaporation results from contact between air and water within the pad. A control system operates the water pumps and regulates the number of fans in operation. This type of system consumes a negligible amount of electricity in operating the fans and pumps.

On a hot sunny day, the moisture content of the atmosphere remains virtually constant; this means that relative humidity is the lowest in the afternoon when the temperature is at its highest. And the lower the relative humidity, the better the evaporative cooling effect. Therefore, the cooling effect is best when you need it most.

These are the performance features you should demand from an efficient evaporative system - from Munters CELdek.

Solar radiation accounts for most of the heat load in the greenhouse. The table below shows the air flow that will be required, depending on the type of shading equipment and the amount of solar radiation entering the greenhouse. The air flow figures quoted below are approximations.

The table below expresses the relationship between solar radiation, shading and the required air flow per m2 of greenhouse surface.

PAD CARE

Kool-Cel pads are very durable and long lasting. To maximize the life of your pads and keep the efficiency of the original installation, correct any conditions that may be detrimental to the pad.

  1. Ph of recirculating water (from sump) must be maintained between 6 and 9 (7 is pure water). If these limits are exceeded, the stiffening agents in the pad will leach out and destroy the pad.
  2. Hard water resulting in Calcium Carbonate deposits on the pad is not harmful, but should be kept within limits.
  3. Sodium Chloride (salt water) concentrate above 50,000 ppm (approximately) will deposit salt on the pad and reduce air flow. Keep salt concentrates below 50,000 ppm in recirculating water and below 40,000 ppm in make-up water.
  4. Algae will grow on any surface that is wet and exposed to sunlight. To help prevent algae build up, follow these tips.
    1. Do not draw make-up water from an open pond. Use well water or chlorinated water from city systems.
    2. Cover the sump to avoid exposure to sunlight and airborne particles, and to keep animals from drinking it.
    3. Keep the fans running after the pump is shut off to dry the pads, thus killing the algae spores left on the pad.
    4. Isolate the water make-up system from any other system.
    5. Pads should be shaded from direct sunlight.
  5. If airborne dust and bugs tend to clog the airflow passages, proper operation of the system will normally wash away the clogging.
  6. When Kool-Cel is installed within reach of poultry or livestock, it should be guarded.
  7. Bleed-Off - Since the water is continuously evaporating and being replaced by fresh water, the salts and minerals are left behind in the re-circulating water. To reduce the buildup of deposits and scale, a bleed off for the recirculating water is provided.
